Membership

In order to compete in Club training sesions, race meetings etc the local Council have asked for each rider to complete a parental consent form each time they wish to take part in a Club activity.  The easier option is to join the club!! Paperwork is then automatically completed  making  life  much easier for you the rider and the Andover Club Volunteers.

We’re trying to get our Membership form to fit on here and print out on one page but in the meantime please feel free to email info@andoverbmx.co.uk  and we will forward you a Membership form to complete.

Please bear with us whilst Eugene  gets it sorted and note that we will have club membership forms at the track at Practice sessions.

News

Welcome to Andover BMX Club

Wheelie Great News for Andover BMXers!

Andover BMX club is celebrating this month after scooping up a £7500 grant from the lottery distributor Awards for All.   The clubs’ BMX racetrack is located within the Depot Youth and Sports Complex at Charlton Andover.

British Cycling has benefited from Lottery funding in recent years and the success of this was proven by the GB Olympic teams haul of Gold medals in Beijing.  BMX racing was included for the first time in Beijing with Britain’s Women’s World Champion, Shanaze Reade unlucky not to reach the podium due to a spectacular crash on the last corner of her final.

Chris Mingo, Andover BMX Chairman said “We are over the moon with the lottery grant . We are now working very closely with Test Valley Borough Council as they have promised to help the club improve the whole facility.  We now have the very real possibility that the improved Andover Track could be a base for some of the International teams ahead of the London Olympics.   In the meantime we would like to welcome any riders to come along and get involved.  We have riders from the age of 4 through to 44! Who knows we could even have an Andover rider in the British team one day.

Gate Practice…  Due to the fading light conditions (did we have a summer ? )   Thursday  night training sessions , have now switched to Saturdays starting for Saturday the 20th .  From Approx 1.00pm things normally get going with the Start gate being setup if enough riders present.   All this  is weather dependant though , we dont mind it cold , but its no fun if its heavy Rain !!

Superb results from Andover riders at the Final round of the 2008 South Summer race series at Bournemouth.

The young guns Aaron Bennett and Ollie Keane were looking quick and mixing it with the top guys. Lewy Ranger won two out of his three Motos and the all Important A final in the 9’s.

Alex Butt got Second in his A final with John Cable looking quick and getting in some Brits Training. Carl Potts was also getting some Brits training by riding both his 20” and Cruiser. Claire Morrison had some great Motos but rolled around in her final having a chat with the other riders!  Paul Bennett was getting awesome starts all day long, as he has been all season and had a good final.  Matt French was easing himself back into things after a bad injury at Milton Keynes, still managing to finish well. Also in the 30-39 Cruiser Class Chris Mingo used all his experience and skilfully avoided the Carnage in the A final and picked up second place.

Probably the best efforts of the day were from Andover’s Three Newest Novice riders:- Liam Watts had terrific Second in his final,  George Warner Won his and Max Howard looked to set to win his final but slipped a pedal and had to settle for Third on the line. Very good effort Guys definitely got the speed to race with the top riders in the region now.  All that Thursday night training is paying off !!

Well that’s the end of the successful 2008 South Region summer series. The riders who have competed in  five rounds have now earned the right to compete at this years British Championships www.britishbmxchampionships.co.uk which this year are being held at Peterbourough.

After the Brits it’s the the South Champs at Herne Bay on the 28th September. Should be a good race at the New Herne Bay track. After this event the South Region Winter series will be announced so watch this space for Updates.

Thursday Night Racing at Andover….  Thursday Night Racing at Andover

The club is pleased to confirm the dates of our Thursday night club race series:-

Round 1…  Thursday 31st July

Round 2…  Thursday  7th August

Round 3…  Thursday  14th August

These three races are a great way of starting out in the sport and racing against riders of similar age and ability to yourself.     Even if you have never raced before you’re more than welcome to come and give it a go.  Only £3.00 to enter and we hope to give all novices a medal if funds permit.   Don’t  forget Helmets are a must ( open face dirt helmets fine ), gloves, long jeans and long sleeve shirt too please.    *  Kids under 16 will need parents to complete a registration form.

Registration starts at 6.00pm, closes at 6.40, with racing starting at 7.00pm prompt.   You will get Three Motos (heat races ), then a final…

We are looking to have a BBQ and some chill out sounds so should be good.

Finally, we would like to thank Eugene for the New Website.   Eugene is a top bloke and has a lot of exciting future ideas for the site up his sleeve.     If you need a web site designed for business or pleasure we can’t recommend the guy highly enough!!    Find Eugene’s info in the Link section.

Back to the rRacing and we’re halfway through the 2008 season.    Just got back from the last South regional at Milton Keynes. Top event and well done to MK for making the Andover crew so welcome but next year please don’t pick the Same day as the Silverstone Grand prix!   Traffic was a nightmare!

On the Andover front things are looking rosy.   We had a great regional event at  Andover back  in April.  The ” Pro-Clean Classic “ and since then the Andover riders have been competing at both Regional and National level with good success.

Myself and Paul Bennett have passed our level 2 British Cycling Coaches course which means we can provide all your Coaching requirements … email us with any questions info@andoverbmx.co.uk

A couple of weeks ago the club  attended Andover Active Sports day in Town.   The committee really worked hard along with  Jim + Lewis Lacey from  www.chargebikes.com Lewis brought along his Factory race ” Charge”  4X + ti BMX bikes along with a  2 man practice start gate.  This was a big hit with the kids as they all wanted  to try this out so hopefully some of then will come along to our Thursday night practice sessions and give it a go.

Big thanks to Alan Ranger for sorting out the  fresh new Andover logo and our latest range of Club clothing ( how cool that does that look!).  Should have some pictures on here soon showing you the club kit and how you can order.

www.facebook.com www.facebook.com www.facebook.com When you get a chance check out our Andover BMX Raceway page on Facebook. Great Photos and even some old school pics of me BITD! Please feel free to add any Pics or Video you may have and lets try and make it the best BMX page on Facebook.

We should be hearing very soon if we are successful with the various grants and funding we have been busy chasing. We are 99% sure that Test Valley Council have agreed to re-surface the area behind the start gate which is great as this can drag mud on to the start hill.

Paul Bennett has drawn up a new great track design. This is all subject to us getting the funds to do the work and we really want to tarmac the berms at the same time (which costs a fortune!) If we do get a budget any track mods we do this year will have to be minor as we dont want to close the track down.

See you Thursday Night down at the Track!
